Sony Ericsson publicized the W300 back in February of 2006. It was the seventh Walkman phone in the series that focuses on a great music experience on top of a cell phone. Sony Ericsson have shaved functionality off the phone in order to bring the cost down, but the core music function is top notch. The music player supports a wide range of formats and audio quality is very high.
The Sony Ericsson W300i comes with the Walkman set-up: hardware music controls, stereo headsets, USB cable for transferring music, expansion slot for music storage, and Disc2Phone software to get music into your phone with tracks and albums info intact.
It supports a broad range of formats, including MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, and WAV files. Opening the player takes you directly to the main menu, where you can organize music by artist, track name, or playlist.. Music capacity is limited by the available memory. Internal space is somewhat small–just 20MB–.
The Sony Ericsson W300i is a compact clamshell phone that feels good in hand. The phone is relatively compact at 3.5 by 1.8 by 1.0 inches, so it’s easily placed in most pockets. It’s also quite light for its size at 3.3 ounces. If you have seen or used the Sony Ericsson Z525 then you’ll notice the resemblance. The W300i comes in two colors: Shadow Black and Shimmering White.
The full Walkman treatment makes it easy to use the phone as a casual music player, though it can’t compete with iPod’s higher music storage capacity and even better fidelity. Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.
