AhnLab a global integrated provider of security services, recently announced the top 7 security issues of the 3rd quarter of 2008 in ASEC (Security Emergency Response Center) report.

According to the report, 16,768 new malware and spyware were recently discovered until the 3rd quarter of this year, increasing 2.6 times over the same period in 2008. This surge is attributed to the ease of generating these malicious codes, and continuing to share and make use of these tools for malicious code for automated attack.

The security issues included in the list are

  • The upsurge of foreign spyware
  • The rampancy of foreign fake vaccines
  • The rise of malicious code exploiting the vulnerabilities in , DOC,PDF and PPT files
  • Intelligent attacks on websites
  • increase in activity of botnets trggering DDoS
  • first report of DNS cache poisoning attack codes
  • Continuation of casualties caused by the traditional virus
