The open source Backed Up by Sun Microsystems, OpenOffice.org, recently released its latest version , Open Office 2.4.0, which can be downloaded for various operation systems; Windows, Linux, Mac OS X at download.openoffice.org
Since its first appearance, OpenOffice.org considered as the main competitor for Microsoft Office. Its open standard file format, Open Document Format (ODF) is believed to be the equal match for Microsoft’s popular Office file format. But let’s not hope too much, since the latest version of OpenOffice does not offer many new features, other than bug fixing for applications like its Writer, Calc, Base Personal Database, Presentation and Impress.
Open Office.org version 3.0 (I think it’s worth waiting ) rumored to be available by September 2008, The upcoming version will support Office 2007 document format, so it’ll make that easier for Offie user to migrate. It will also support ODF 1.2 and user interface improvement.
