Xbox 360 as MEDIA CENTER

Xbox 360 as a media center

Xbox 360 as a media center

It is pretty difficult to find the ideal multimedia center, which cover all the functionality we want at a reasonable price. Recently Microsoft added some new features on their XBox 360 so that it can be functioned as Media Center.

The obvious benefit of the Xbox 360 is that it combines various features in a single device. Yes, as the console is pretty large, but if we avoid installing other peripherals next to the TV, this size is compensated for leftovers.

Leaving aside the functions of console, the Xbox 360 will operate as a conventional media player. We can connect external disks through its USB port and play video, music and photos from them.

Video is supported, including WMV, DivX and Xvid which represents a number of videos you can download. Therefore, keeping the contents of the computer to the living room is very easy. And if you have an iPod, it is also compatible with the format you use (unless we have music with DRM).

The Xbox 360 comes as a good choice as a media center, but limited by lack of support from some formats and for not being able to visualize external subtitles to the videos.

THE GIANT software maker, Microsoft said on Tuesday that they will offer individuals free software to protect their PCs and discontinue its subscription-based consumer security suite.

The free antivirus from Microsoft will be released in the second half of 2009 and will have code name MORRO. Along with the upcoming antivirus, there will be a great chance that the company will discontinue Windows Onecare Service. Morro will be better suited for less powerful PCs and low-bandwith system since it uses fewer resources than the subscription service.

Morro will protect against viruses, rootkits, spyware and Trojan. The Microsoft free antivirus will be available for download over the Internet and will work on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and the upcoming Windows 7.
