firefox 3.1 with multitouch support

firefox 3.1 with multitouch support

It’s a good news for Firefox 3.1 and Mac users. Mozilla has just released Firefox 3.1 pre-beta 2 Mac developers. Consequently, Firefox will support multi-touch feature that is activated by using two, three or fourof your fingers.

Three-finger sweep to the left and right, for example, apply to the navigation page to the front and back. Three-finger sweep in the vertical jump will jump the page to the top or bottom. Playing finger clockwise movement of the tab from left to right and vice versa. Meanwhile, zoom in and out of a page is done via the ‘pinch’ motion.

Unfortunately, at this stage, Edward Lee from the Mozilla not know whether the finger-friendliness will appear in the final release of Firefox which is expected to be ready early next year. What is clear, the trial features; these can be enjoyed by users of the MacBook Pro. So, we’ll wait when the multi-touch features are present for the other platforms.

Multitouch
technology could be be the next big thing as far as computer interface go. and the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology, or HIIT recently announced a new 3D version of its multitouch LCD display called CityWall.

CityWall is an interactive multitouch project open to public experimentation at the Lasipalatsi medical center in Helsinki, Finland. Developed by the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology, CityWall currently offers passers-by a 3D GUI to explore the benefits and nuisances of urban nature. It’s able to recognize an unlimited number of fingers touching the screen and uniquely identify them.

Similar to other multitouch screens we’ve seen, CityWall uses a a rear-projection system involving multiple cameras, projectors, and infrared sensors. It presumably tracks reflected infrared light triggered by fingers touching the display screen, as seen in the NORTD DIY multitouch kit
