The validation takes only a few moments, and allows Microsoft to create a balance between your PC and hardware profile 25-character Product Key (located on the Certificate of Authenticity), which stores and controls Microsoft against future attempts of activation and validation. We do this to ensure that your key to the product is not being used by another person in a malicious manner, such as the activation of a counterfeit or non-genuine copy of Office.
