What is the computer in the world? How fast is it? What people made it for ? Wanna know…
Let’s find out !

The top 3 fastest computers ever made by man according to TOP 500 list (www.top500.org) are IBM Bluegene/L (360 teraflop), IBM BGW (115 teraflop), and IBM ASC Purple (93 teraflop).

But there’s one super computer called MDGrape-3 made by Riken which I think the real super duper computer. Theorically MDGrape-3 is upto 3 times faster than Bluegene/L-1 quadrillion operation per second . Unfortunately it can not run TOP500’s official software due to its specific purpose.

MDGrape-3 is mainly used for pharmacology research especially in dynamic molecule simulation. MDGrape-3 is a parallel compution system constructed from 2 main parts. The main server and the unit, whic consist of machines with special duties. The unit is a cluster of 201 machines that run by using the chips developed by Riken. Each chip has 230 gigaflop (1 billion operation per second). The server arranges the performance of each cluster.

How about the fastest computer TOp500’s version? Bluegene/L is also a biotechnology machine.
