Once you click ‘Shut Down’ the button to turn off your computer PC, there will be a “dialogue box” popping up on the screen. The dialog box asking you whether you want to turn off programs that are open or not? Because your goal is actually shutting down the computer, of course, you select the option to turn off the program. Can Windows XP setting changed so that opening programs can be closed automatically when you shut down your computer?

Tip: The answer is yes. You can tell Windows to shut down some programs that are open or closed in the background. To do this trick, you must change the structure of the Windows XP registry.

Ok..now let’s go to registry editor program from “Start | Run | Regedit.” Once the registry editor appear on the screen, go to the key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Control Panel | Desktop.” Search entry called “AutoEndTasks.” Open the entry and change the value in the Value data from “0” to “1“. After that , click “OK” and close the registry editor. Restart your PC so that you can run this trick smoothly. To test it, you can run several programs in Windows XP, and then do the shutdown.
